Water as the Lifeblood of the World
The Kogi, an indigenous people from the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia, see water as the fundamental connector of all life. For them, water is not just a physical element, but a spiritual presence—a carrier of memory, emotion, and relationship. It is the bloodstream of the Earth, flowing through rivers, clouds, plants, animals, and humans alike.
The Kogi say: “Water is the Mother’s voice.” The way we treat water reflects the way we treat life itself. When we pollute water, we pollute our thoughts. When we forget its sacredness, we forget our own. That’s why, for the Kogi, caring for water is caring for the balance of the world. They see the purity of water as directly connected to the purity of our thoughts and relationships.
What You Can Expect in the Workshop
Together, we will immerse ourselves in the Kogi’s deep knowledge of water, nature, and balance. We explore questions such as:
- What does water mean for the Kogi—beyond the physical? What is its spiritual role in maintaining harmony?
- How do the Kogi “listen” to water and understand when it is out of balance?
- What practices do they use to keep the water clean—externally and internally?
- How do they read the landscape to follow the hidden waterways, also called “black lines,” that connect the whole Earth?
- What role does water play in relationships, healing, and conflict resolution?
- How can we restore our own relationship with water—and, through that, with life?
Experience Rituals and Nature Walks
Beyond deep conversations, you’ll have the chance to engage with the Kogi’s wisdom in practical ways:
- Join guided nature walks with the Kogi Mamos through the forests and wetlands of Lahemaa National Park, experiencing the landscape through indigenous eyes.
- Take part in rituals that cleanse and harmonize inner and outer water.
- Learn how to observe natural signs and reconnect to the intuitive intelligence of the Earth.
- Reflect in small groups and deepen your personal insights.
